Selling utility products by showing how they fit in the process - After another designer at Kelly MarCom worked on an infographic depicting the metering company's water meter product line, Sensus looked for a way to show their line of electricity meters and gas meters to clients. Using Illustrator vector line art for the products and purchased vector stock for the map, I designed two layered infographics for a Sensus PowerPoint presentation. The goal of the maps was to both illustrate the utility process from creation to consumption as well as show how their metering products fit into the process.

Description
After another designer at Kelly MarCom worked on an infographic depicting the metering company's water meter product line, Sensus looked for a way to show their line of electricity meters and gas meters to clients. Mottisimals Website
For our annual holiday greeting, the Mottis team and I designed and produced an interactive storytelling experience with a charitable twist -- "Mottisimals: A Tiger's Tale of Transformation."
Mottisimals (pronounced mo-TISS-ee-muhls) features the fictional story of Jellybean, a lonely and rare white tiger who receives a box of costumes bearing likeness to other animals. Jellybean tries on the various pieces and learns the value of being a unique creature. We invite visitors to create their own Mottisimals by selecting costume pieces for Jellybean as they read his story. At the end of the story, we ask each visitor to share his or her Mottisimal.
For each of the first 1,500 Mottisimals created and shared, we will donate $1 to Carolina Tiger Rescue, a wildlife sanctuary in Pittsboro, N.C. Jellybean’s character is based on the real Jellybean, a white tiger housed at the facility along with more than 70 tigers, lions and other wild cats.

Agromeck Yearbook
As editor of the Agromeck, N.C. State University's official yearbook, I worked to produce a historical record of the 2010-2011 school year. I art directed all of the design in the 376-page book, as well as managed seven section editors and a staff of 40 people, a budget of $90,000 and distribution of 1,000 books to seniors. The underlying theme for the book was "moving forward," as the University recovered the economic crisis and administrative turmoil in 2009. The fonts utilized are Vitesse and Gotham Extra Narrow.
On March 18, 2012, the Columbia Scholastic Press Association awarded the Agromeck its highest honor for collegiate yearbooks, the Gold Crown. It was one of seven yearbooks to win the award. On March 20, 2012, the Associated Collegiate Press named the Agromeck and ten other college yearbooks Pacemaker finalists. RDU Baton
Inspired by photographer John de Guzmán's Big Apple version, NYC Baton, My friend Brittany Iery and I decided to make our own.
Instagram photos from Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and the surrounding areas comprise the blog, which is powered by one local Instagram user each day. It's not about quality or quantity, though -- all photographers are welcome to participate. Content varies from cats and dinner plates to workspaces and landscapes. The blog curates all the phone photos into one place, a constantly updating exhibit of the Research Triangle. The content is then pushed to various social media avenues, and a new photographer takes over at midnight to continue the "relay race."

Mottis Collateral
"Mottis is motion. It’s energy with direction. Progression with purpose. An unapologetic rejection of the tired, the cliched and the expected. This is who we are."
In March 2012, the agency I work for, Kelly MarCom, renamed and rebranded itself Mottis, a move to separate ourselves from the past. Utilizing the bright, sun-kissed Pantone Orange 021 and our line art that reflects our adaptability and originality, I art directed our brand stationery. Each team member's two-color business card is unique, featuring a different cross-section of the line art, representing his or her personality. Some of the cards are folded in half, adding a place for scribbles and notes. Available to everyone is use of the notecards, for much-appreciated, handwritten notes to clients, partners and friends of Mottis. 2012 Branding, Graphic Design -

100 Plants for 100 Counties
For my senior capstone project, I explored a historic area of N.C. State University's campus, the Court of North Carolina. Intrigued by a rumor I heard when I gave campus tours, I sought the truth -- did the Court really house one piece of vegetation for each of the 100 counties in North Carolina? After sifting through the University Archives and interviewing professors, it turns out the Court was not designed for that purpose but rather as a pedestrian green space. But that led me to ask, "Why can't it be true?" With the help of a horticulture professor, I identified 92 existing plants in the court, assigned them to 92 counties and created the hypothetical organization "100 Plants for 100 Counties" to replant the remaining eight.

Fundraising Infographic Report
Raleigh-based non-profit consultancy Third Space Studio wanted to see if annual giving rose or declined in 2011, so they conducted a survey of 22 non-profit organizations in North Carolina. I worked with Heather Yandow to produce the 20-page, full-color "North Carolina Individual Donor Benchmark Report," which details the results of the survey, which is available for download from Third Space Studio. I also produced an infographic for the organization to tease the report online.

The Brick
As the editor and sole designer for The Brick, a book for new students at N.C. State University to memorialize their college experience, I worked to create a brand for Student Government's new Tradition Keeper program. Ideally, students would complete, scrapbook-style, 40 or more of the 50 traditions in The Brick to earn a medal in which to don at graduation. Each tradition in the book has an open spot for students to place a "memory." We wrote copy to define the traditions and their histories and paired them with file photos from the Agromeck yearbook and Technician student newspaper to show how other students completed the traditions.
Worked with Chandler Thompson, Andy Walsh and Sam Dennis, all members of Student Government, on this project. 2011 Editorial Design -
Two Pencils
For a school project, I designed this typeface with a childhood penmanship trick in mind -- you can duplicate words with a second pencil in hand. Monospaced, the face is detailed in display form, but when set smaller, it appears a typical sans serif -- another tromp l'oeil.

Urban Explorers
In this group project, I took on the role of branding and print work for our hypothetical organization, Urban Explorers, an interactive experience to help city-dwellers and tourists explore their surroundings -- scavenger-hunt style. My friends and fellow students Heidi Adams and Natalie Brown designed the mobile and web portions of the project, respectively. We worked well as a team to develop all things UE and develop an experience that hopefully may one day come to fruition and be as fun for participants as it was for us.

I take my camera with me practically everywhere I go. These are photos from my travels at home and around the world. I like to capture moments with people, animals and nature. I look for texture, repetition, light and color when I shoot. These are shot with either a Canon Rebel XTi or, more recently, a Canon 40D.

Technician
During my time with the Technician student newspaper in my freshman and sophomore years, I quickly moved up the ranks from a page designer to design co-editor to design director of the daily paper in just two years. I designed news, features, opinion and sports pages. I took great pleasure in planning special packages and editions as well as in leading a staff of 10 designers. I won numerous awards for my work, which can be seen in the Honors portion of my website.

Whim magazine
For a class project, we designed magazines that we made up. Whim is the magazine I created for children ages 4 to 12 and their parents. Filled with six departments featuring age-appropriate, gender-neutral crafts and recipes for the kids and articles for Mom and Dad, Whim was an exercise in content curation and systems design.

Czech Glass Earrings
After discovering my love for beading and jewelry making when I was in middle school, I expanded my skill set and began a bead collection. My findings come from all over -- Chicago, South Africa and Washington, D.C., to name a few -- as well as from local shops near my homes in Charlotte and Raleigh. I often make jewelry as gifts for friends or for myself.
Having always loved the unique colors found in Czech glass beads, I decided to open an Etsy shop in April 2012 to market this hobby. I pride myself on matching unexpected colors of beads. I use mostly silver- and gold-plated ear wires with the Czech glass beads, sometimes pairing them with stones or crystals for different color combinations.
